Chilean-born fashion designer Maria Cornejo, studied at Ravensbourne College in London during the early 1980s. Her career spans London, Paris, Milan, Tokyo and New York. She has worked at various levels for fashion houses like Fiorucci and retailers like Tehen and Jigsaw.
In 1996 she moved to New York and opened her atelier, Zero, when she transformed a raw space in Bleecker Street in 1998. The name Zero represents that point of departure and Cornejo’s pure vision for the spare and architectural. In 2005, the designer’s long-time friend Marysia Woroniecka joined her on her quest and they expanded the company. Informed by circular shapes with imaginative draping and dramatic angles, Zero + Maria Cornejo clothing is often designed from one continuous piece of fabric. Maria continues to design from her Bleecker street atelier.
