The platform has been used since 220 B.C. when Greek actors wore leather ones with heels made out of cork. The higher the platform shoe the more important the actor was. It wasn't until the 1930's when Salvatore Ferragamo debuted his fashion forward version of the platform shoe.

In the 70's disco dancing was in the limelight and so were high-heeled platform sandals and shoes which became a real trend. Since then we've seen platform sneakers brought to you by the Spice Girls in the 90's, sandals or oxfords with a thick and flat sole in the 2010's and platform pumps which are current staple shoe.
