5 Latin Entrepreneurs That Will Inspire You

5 Latin Entrepreneurs That Will Inspire You
By Yazmin Magana
At hermosaz we understand the sacrifice and courage that is required to carry out a new project. That is why we are always happy to promote Latino entrepreneurs and give them a space to share their dreams and reach more hearts. Enjoy this list of 5 Latin entrepreneurs that will inspire you to start your project!

1. GYV
The inspiration for GYV came to me on one sunny afternoon while I was enjoying a Raspado de Mango, a sweet, tangy treat of shaved ice with mango, lime, and a hint of chile. At that moment, I reflected on how the flavors and fragrances that are so prevalent in my life have become global trends, disconnected from the people and land that first cultivated them in Mesoamerica. Ingredients like vanilla, maìz, and calabaza are sold in products across the globe but are only known as vanilla, corn, and pumpkin, with little or no mention of their origin. Here at GYV, we are in the business of positive change. Our mission is to touch the hearts of as many people as possible, and we want you to be part of our efforts to make a difference.

Sololi

Sololi

By: Isabel
IG: @sololishop

I’m Isabel an American Dominican Latina/x women. My mom is from Puerto Plata my dad from Monte Cristi. I’m a mother of two girls, married for almost 20 years, he is Mexican-American, his mom is from Michoacan and his dad is from a small town of Puebla called Chila de la Sal. The main reason I started Sololi is because I wanted to help local artisans. Second, I wanted to share with the world that you don’t have to shop for everything at a big box store, that if you look around you can realize that our ancestors have been creating beautiful pieces from over a thousand years.

Sololi is a artisan shop of traditional merchandise with a modern twist of colors and fun patterns. My goal is to share with the world beautiful handmade items that we co-create with our artisan partners in Mexico.

Sololi comes from the indigenous language Nahuatl and it means “something old” the symbol on top comes from Tzotzil language and it means “star” all together means that our ancestors are guiding us to continue sharing their handmade traditions with with the world.

Any advice you want to give fellow Latinas who want to start their own business?

To always do their best work and to touch one person at a time. Make a difference. Build a legacy, not just an empire. Keep your values front and center. Launch ideas from your corazón. Make passion your master and allow all possibility to feed your soul.

Xipi~teca

Xipi~teca celebrates the magic in all women of color and all body types by personalizing everything they make. Invoking the spirit of femininity, amor y cultura. The sisters who began the company were raised watching their mother hustle to care for their family. Adriana, the creator, always thought of herself as an artist. Through her freelance work as a photographer, she discovered her love for fashion. Even through her shy nature, her voice rings powerful through the items she creates. Gaby, the organizer and hustler half of the company, she keeps to the consciousness entrepreneurship of the company. Her dedication and passion for equality helps Xipi~teca move adelante in conscious entrepreneurship. Just like the sisters, Xipi~teca embraces all bodies and is made custom for a personal and positive experience.

It is very important to be yourself. There are so many versions and pictures of what the world wants you to be out there. The norm is already set. It is up to you to stay strong and be authentic. The world deserves to hear your voice and your story, and maybe then we can break the cycle of that one-set vision the media continues to aggravate. Xipi~teca moves to stay true to Adriana’s and Gaby’s culture and vision.

Latina Made Not Maid

Latina Made Not Maid (LMNM) is a non-profit organization that works towards changing Latina stereotypes. The LMNM Movement began with a web search, “Latina Made.” When these words were entered into the browser, it then suggested “Latina Maid” and our reaction prompted a need for a movement. This suggestion is alarming considering Latinas continue to overcome the odds by entering universities, politics, and opening businesses in record numbers.

Co-Founders, Ana Martinez- Feliciano and Erika Hernandez, both Latinas, have been friends for 25 years. Together, they hope to pass along a message of appreciation for the culture, and most importantly, promote Latina success stories. They believe that Latina triumphs should not be undermined by stereotypes.

Any advice you want to give to Latino entrepreneurs?
Follow your dreams! Sometimes it is hard, sometimes it takes a lot of courage, but always follow your dreams. You only have one life to live, and if you believe that you are capable of doing what is necessary to have your dreams come true, then you will achieve them. It sounds cliche, but never give up on them!

What advice do you want to give to Latina / o entrepreneurs?
The best advice I can give to Latinas, entrepreneurs and women in general is that: United we are better! When we support each other, our projects grow. That's how my brand became known. Thanks to other women who identified themselves with my designs, and they supported me by recommending it by word of mouth to more people.
