5 reasons why Latinas should try Korean skincare products

by Maria Lopez

Korean Products

Growing up as a latina woman, I struggled with stress acne especially in high school. During my senior year, I found an interest in Korean Culture and found one common trait with (in) everything I watched. They had perfectly clear skin! So, I started to research what products they used for myself.

To my surprise, my stress acne was gone! It’s been almost six years since I switched to using Korean skincare. Their products gave me a flawless look without using makeup and boosted my confidence in life.

You may ask yourself why people are jumping onto this trend. More importantly, why should you? Here are the 5 reasons I think you should.

1. All about healthy skin

Hydrating, nourishing and repairing your skin with enhanced skin features, and giving you a youthful-looking glow are just some of the effects you can get from Korean skincare.

The Korean skincare industry is dedicated to giving women and men a nourished skin look as well as effortlessly perfect look at all times with or without makeup. They believe that skincare comes first and makeup comes second.

Through my skincare journey, I found it's about dedication and time investment. People in South Korea use three or even more types of moisturizers and cleansers a day to achieve their healthy skin. This may seem a bit exaggerated for those unfamiliar with extensive skin care routines, but one thing for sure is that it always gives you the results you want.

2. All Natural Ingredients

After months of researching various ingredients used in both Korean and non-Korean skincare products, only the Korean ones actually use what they claim to be. Here are two examples of many.

3. All About Prevention

The philosophy of Korea skincare products  also focus on prevention rather than just treatment. They believe that getting to the root of the skin's problems leads to longer-lasting results. For instance, before you get pimples, you should use formulas that prevent pimples; before getting wrinkles, use products, such as face masks and moisturizers that help revitalize the skin.

4. Technology and Innovation

The skincare industry in South Korea knows that both the local and global markets not only have soaring demands for high-quality products, but also have increasing knowledge about the products and their effectiveness as well as international competitors.

In order to keep their customers, they can only continue to increase their standards for product quality to achieve the best skincare results with innovative technology . Thanks to South Korea, we can now enjoy skin capsules, sheet masks, pimple patches, and eye masks globally.

5. Value for your money

As compared to other skincare products out there in the market, Korean skincare is one that values results for every penny spent. You'll be impressed by how inexpensive Korean products are while giving you long lasting results.

What do you like about being Latina?

I love being Latina, I love how authentic we are, our sense of humor and our strength... We are not easy to beat!

Who is your fashion icon?

Krizia the Italian designer because she risked everything to live for her true passion that was fashion and created a great legacy. My name was inspired by her; I also love Carolina Herrera, a Venezuelan who makes me proud with her good taste and creativity...

How does your culture influence your personal style?

Due to the political situation and everything that unfolds as a consequence, Venezuelans have had to emigrate; therefore enriching ourselves from the cultures of other countries... My Latin culture represents me in my femininity, however, having seen several countries and various realities, my vision is now broader, like my taste...

If your life were a movie, what should the title be?

It would take the title of the film that Julia Roberts starred in: Eat, Pray, Love ... because I think I'm still on that important journey of self-discovery.

What actresses or models do you think have the best style?

I love the style of Elsa Hosk, one of Victoria’s Secret models, it is one of my favorite styles. Kendall Jenner also seems super top!

What do you like about being Latina?

What I like about being Latina is the culture, it is a feeling of love and passion for our culture and traditions!

We are very diverse, Latin America is very large, and we have many values that enrich us.

What does fashion mean to you and how would you define your style?

Fashion is a way of expressing myself, of showing who I am, and what my feelings are. I don't have a specific style, I really like to wear accessories, big earrings! But when it comes to dressing I love to wear elegant but daring outfits at the same time! One day I can have a minimalist look and the next day I can wear something super fancy.

Who is your fashion icon?

My fashion icon is Audrey Hepburn, I absolutely love her, her style, her biography, her makeup and hairstyles fascinate me! She was always distinguished.

How does your culture influence your personal style?

As a Latina, I feel identified every time I dress because I feel like a strong woman, with that spark that we have in nature, also because I am Ecuadorian, my culture identifies me a lot, we have always been elegant and empowered women.

If your life were a movie, what should the title be?

Path to success! I think it fits very well in my present and future!

What actresses or models do you think have the best style?

Well I have many actresses and models that I love their styles, but the ones that I think have the best style are Blake Lively, Olivia Culpo, Jlo, Chiara Ferragni, and Kourtney Kardashian.

What do you like about being Latina?

Knowing that I carry from my roots that essence that flows through my veins. The love for the tropical music that makes my heart beat fast and moves my whole body! The food full of taste and history, the abundance of colors, armories and identities. I like that authentic style that defines us as Latins.

What does fashion mean to you and how would you define your style?

Fashion for me is a way to communicate myself. It is more than trends. It’s learning how to dress my body aligned to my values and with what I want to show: a secure and empowered woman. My style has two ways: in the morning it’s totally sport because I go to the gym, and by the afternoon it’s really formal and business look! But always glam and chic!

Who is your fashion icon?

I have two! Audrey Hepburn and Carolina Herrera! Because of the elegance prevailing simplicity.

How does your culture influence your personal style?

Now that I’m a miss that represents her country, a lot! I love to highlight garments that show the folklore of my country with my outfits.

If your life were a movie, what should the title be?

“The moon phases...” because I have always admired this big astronomical body! I love to compare my life in an analogy of each moon’s phase, especially in the growing phases until arriving at a full moon, big, brilliant and powerful in that dark sky always being an object of admiration.

What actresses or models do you think have the best style?

I love Blake Lively and her versatility since Gossip Girl; Victoria Beckham, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Their styles reflect elegance, versatility, and an empowered woman owning their clothes and highlighting from normality with grace.

How does your culture influence your personal style?

My culture is what formed the woman that I am now, it is something that was imposed to me since I was little, to love our roots, where we come from, and to be able to show the world each of our traditions, thoughts and the big heart that characterizes us as Mexicans. This fills me with joy, and I want to shout to the world how proud I am of where I come from.

I think the word fashion describes itself, fashion is what we wear according to seasons or events, and because we identify ourselves with those garments.
